Memorial Day Weekend-Means Summer is Here

Here it is-Memorial Day weekend. I still have the furnace on because it has been getting down into the 30s and 40s at night! It isn't kicking on a lot because this is a brick house and it holds the heat pretty well. But, I feel that with Larry and how cold he is all the time, I have to keep the furnace on until it warms up more.
It is a beautiful sunny day. Tommy called yesterday and said that Ryan has a Little League Tournament in Racine today and normally, I would load Larry up and off we would go. But, Phrog said he is coming this afternoon to work in the yard, so that is a no brainer- Hmmmm....help in the yard? or blow off help in the yard and go drive 45 miles @ $4.19 a gallon.
And, you know, I really would not mind paying $4.19 a gallon for gasoline if it weren't for the smug buggers running the oil companies and making BILLIONS in profit, because "This is their 'up' years and they have to take advantage and make the money while they can, so when the market goes down again, they have the profits to fall back on". Right......
So, what I am doing, is trying to cut back on my driving, turning down the thermostat, turning off lights, growing more of our veggies. I talk to people who say,"What good does that do? We need more help than those little things that you are doing."
My thought, and I am sure it is the thought of many is....You have to start somewhere. And if everyone made a little effort to help....turn out lights, use electric off peak hours, don't mow your lawn as much, cut back on driving that is not necessary. You know what I mean. Little things add up. Especially if many people do a little bit more every week. But instead, most of these goof balls are focused on- "What we need is..." and then they espouse their views on what will turn the country around. All well and good. The country does need lots of help. A new direction and someone who can really lead the country. But, at this point, talking is just talking. Yes, as with anything, it has to start somewhere, but I really think that most of these guys that they show on the news, just talk to hear themselves talk. It is just so much rhetoric and that is all. Talk about it to placate the masses and then just go on our merry way and do just what we want to do, to the benefit of big business and , ooops, so sorry little guys! Sorry, but you are going to get royally screwed in this deal, but, maybe, we can think of something to help you out further down the road. Don't despair! Next year, we will review the subject and put a bill before congress that might, on some off chance have a little benefit for you. No worries!
Well, enough of my venting . That soap box could be going and going for weeks.
When Biz was here, she took pictures of Julie and Elvis. Julie is my neighbor. She has even more cats than I do!
She also took pictures of Max- the big black cat. He is hiding under the wash in the basket, thinking that no one can see him.
Peaches...she is slightly overweight and I assure her that it is because she is big boned. She is very sensitive about people calling her fat, so we try to build up her self-esteem.
And the last picture is the Shaggy-Baggy baby, hiding in Larry's Packer jacket!

Shaggy is so sweet and such a cutey-pie!
Sassy- is Peaches sister and is the total opposite. She is skinny as a rail and very active.
And last, but certainly not least is Pewter. Pewter lives in the basement-by choice. She hates the other cats and went down into the basement several years ago and refused to come back up and join us. So, she has her own litter-box and food down there. None of the other cats are allowed (although, they do sneak down once in awhile and Pewter then gets all huffy). Pewter is also allowed to go outside. She is a fair weather cat- if it is nasty, or a storm is coming up, she won't go out. But when it is nice, she roams the yard. No further. She is a pretty big chicken and any strange sound will send her fleeing towards the basement door and safety!
And, that is everyone! So, thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great holiday!
